OUPV-Six Pack Requirement Steps
"Getting your OUPV License is a straightforward process if you know the requirements. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you understand what’s needed.
1: Meet the Eligibility Requirements
Age: Must be 18 years or older, 19 years for a Master's
Citizenship: U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Photo ID: Drivers license or Passport
2: Document Your Sea Service
OUPV 6-Pack - Minimum 360 days of sea time
Master's license- 720 days sea time
* At least 90 days within the last 3 years
* At least 90 days on Near Coastal waters (if applying for a Near Coastal license)
Sea time must be properly logged and verified using CG-719S forms
3: Meet Additional Requirements
Medical Exam: Pass a USCG-approved medical evaluation CG-719K form
Pass a drug screening: CG-719P and be enrolled in active random drug testing
TWIC (required for the application process of a new OUPV license)
(IF APPLICABLE) Fill out a CG-719C Conviction Statement
4: Complete Required Training & Exams
Enroll in and pass a USCG-approved OUPV course or take the exam at a
USCG Regional Exam Center
Test topics include:
* Rules of the Road- 50 questions, 90% to pass
* Navigation - 50 questions, 70% to pass
* Plotting - 10 questions, 90% to pass
* Deck Safety & General Knowledge - 50 questions, 70% to pass
* STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping): If applicable
* Complete an adult CPR & First Aid training course
5: Submit Your Application Package
Complete & submit the CG-719B application form
Provide supporting documents, including:
* Sea Service Forms (CG-719S)
* TWIC application confirmation
* Medical exam results (CG-719K)
* Drug test results
* CPR/First Aid certification
* Course completion certificate (if applicable)
Pay the USCG processing & issuance fees
6: USCG Review & License Issuance
The USCG will review your application and notify you of any additional requirements.
Once approved, you will receive your OUPV License in the mail
